Sundance Institute and Kevin Hart's Laugh Out Loud will partner to launch Women Write Now, a writing fellowship designed for Black women in comedy. The collaboration is an effort to elevate Black female comedy writers through mentorship, advocacy, production, and exhibition.
“Black women have contributed to some of the industry’s most successful and innovative film and television content. Yet, opportunities for this group are still few and far between; especially in comedy. With Women Write Now, we’re not just shining a light on a problem, but also illuminating a path to long-term solutions,” says Laugh Out Loud President & COO, Thai Randolph.
The fellowship will also offer mentorship from some of comedies top Black creators including Gabrielle Dennis, Meagan Good, and Bresha Webb. Selected projects will also have a staff and crew by those underrepresented in Hollywood and will premiere at a private screening during Sundance Film Festival 2021.
